On Monday, the CUNY Board approved a 15% tuition hike to begin in September 2009. There are a few steps between this vote and actual implementation of the raise, which means CUNY will be lobbying Albany. Keep an eye on the comments for more details about the process.
The new tuition for instate residents could be:
Undergraduate- 4yr School- tuition may increase up to $300/semester, making full-time tuition $4,600.
Community college- increases of up to $200 per semester, making full-time tuition $3,200.
The chancellor says that "[w]e are making every effort to protect our most vulnerable students at a time of severe fiscal crisis in the city, state and nation,” which we find hard to believe given that he was the one responsible for the end of open admissions at undergraduate schools.
In addition to the hike, the law school is rumored to loose around $100 million dollars in funding.
